Managua has got the bulk of the discos and fun restaurants but in terms of sheer entertainment there's less to do in Managua than there is in a lot of the rest of Nicaragua. Unless you enjoy baseball.

For that matter, even if you dislike baseball, Managua's Roberto Clemente stadium is worth a visit. Baseball in Nicaragua remains unadulterated, even amateur, but sitting up in the stands with the fans is an unforgettable experience, and if you happen to be passing through the capital during a game, it's worth your while to stop in.

Randy Wayne White writes:

Nicaragua, like baseball, is a dependable scaffolding for irony, and there is no better example than Estadio Nacional Dennis Martinez in Managua--aka Mad Monk Stadium to a few pro-Contra types I met back in the eighties--my favorite place to watch America's game. It's a big, rickety bowl that seats 30,000, and the theater in the stands is often better than the nine-act drama below. Nicaraguans are passionate about the sport, sometimes fanatical, so there are usually plenty of armed police on hand to keep control.
